You can make good use of the search engine, then look for the article on Google newspapers. https://news.google.com/newspapers.

I found lots of articles through the search feature. Some of which I did not already have. Worthwhile looking into further.....

About Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
http://archives.post-gazette.com/about/

It does cost extra for the post-gazette archives for newspapers 1921-2014. The post-gazette archives is additional by itself at $59.95 or $7.95 a month.

Question: Does this auto-renew?
What subscription service doesn't have the auto-renewal. Always buy as a gift subscription. Gift subscriptions do not auto-renew!

Best way to search.
GO TO BROWSE, then select United States, Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh.
Go to browse:
http://www.newspapers.com/browse/
Click on United State of America
Click on Pennsylvania
Click on Pittsburgh

Add in the surname in the search box enclosed between "quotation marks".

For searching. Search a surname, enclosed in quotation marks such as "George Scott" or "Mary I Scott"

Or search Pittsburgh only newspapers by going to: http://www.newspapers.com/browse/

For the name of the person within a certain year.
Then add in the "surname" "year"
for more specific results.

This will bring up specific results for the name, and not a gazillion results for either the first or last name.

I am going to give you several examples. I have done several searches:

George Scott searched on newspapers.com for Pittsburgh:

http://www.newspapers.com/search/#lnd=1&query=%22George+Scott%22&dr_year=1891-1891&cat=438%2FPittsburgh%2C+PA

Mary I Scott searched on newspapers.com for Pittsburgh:

http://www.newspapers.com/search/#lnd=1&query=%22Mary+I+Scott%22&cat=438%2FPittsburgh%2C+PA

George Scott on the Post Gazette Archives:

http://archives.post-gazette.com/search/#query=%22George+Scott%22
http://archives.post-gazette.com/search/#query=%22George+Scott%22&dr_year=1891-1891

Mary I Scott on the Post Gazette Archives:

http://archives.post-gazette.com/search/#query=%22Mary+I+Scott%22

Now here is where this would have been useful in finding the obit for Olive Scott.

On the Post Gazette Archives, third one down:

http://archives.post-gazette.com/search/#query=%22Ernest+G+Scott%22

No. This has nothing to do with the Google Newspaper Archives.

You can do searches FREE, but look them up the hard way on google newspaper archives.

If you can't afford to subscribe, you can still do FREE searches, then with possible dates, and exact page numbers; you can then find the obits on Google newspaper archives.

Additional Info Carnegie library:
Carnegie Library now charges a Obituary/Death Notice Research Fee: $5/name.

The Carnegie Library now charges Newspaper Article Research Fee: $10 for 1-6 pages.

You can now calculate the cost of ordering obituaries from the Carnegie Library versus a month subscription for $7.95 or a year for $49.95 to newspapers.com or a year for $59.95 for the Post Gazette Archives at: http://archives.post-gazette.com/

If you find more than two (2) obituaries or articles, the service has well paid for itself in return.

Then you can concentrate on just getting birth, marriage, or death records, naturalization records, etc. from the Carnegie Library
